One of the simplest ways to start making money online is through affiliate marketing, because you do not have to invest much, you don’ have to own your products, and you don’t need to have to bother yourself about shipping or customer service.
What is needed of you to be successful in affiliate marketing is having a strong desire to succeed and the knowledge of making it happen. Others can help you with the knowledge to get started, but is up to you to get and stay motivated.
This article aims at teaching you the basics of getting started with affiliate marketing. You will also learn how to choose niches that are profitable, what affiliate products to promote and how to drive traffic to your offers.
All I’ll be teaching you will require no upfront investment, and very little technical knowledge. These are very basic techniques that virtually anyone can learn.
Let’s get rollong…
Choosing Profitable Niches
Choosing the right niche to promote is the first thing you should do. This is not as easy as it sounds. You can’t just choose any niche; you must choose a niche that is profitable. Not every niche will be as profitable as you might think.
I have in the past chosen niches that I truly expected to be profitable, yet despite all my efforts, I was unable to find any affiliate product that would convert well enough to make my efforts worthwhile.
Thankfully, I was able to learn how to lessen my chances of choosing dud niches. You eliminate a number of the risks involved in choosing these unprofitable niches by following a few simple steps.
The first step you should take is to create a list of niches you are interested in promoting. Make a long list of niches you’re interested in promoting or you think might be profitable.
You don’t have to worry about anything other than making a list of 15-25 niches right now. You can always look around you for inspirations if you need help.
Some places to seek inspiration
- Take a look around your house: Check out appliances in your kitchen, supplies for office, musical instruments and audio visual equipment, outdoor barbecue equipment. These all are niches you might spot around your house.
- Browse online and offline bookstore: Check out a bookstore in your neighbourhood or Amazon.com.
- You can get hot topics by looking around news websites.
Checking Potential Profitability
When you have the list of 15-30 niches ideas, start narrowing them down by checking out their potential for profit.
All these can be done through these three ways:
- 1. Are there any magazines being published in the niche? This sometimes might be an indication that a niche is profitable.
- 2. Are there people advertising on Google AdWords for the niche. If a niche is not profitable, people are not likely going to advertise en masse in the niche.
- 3. Get commercial intent based keyword phrases for your targeted niche.
The Commercial Intention tool is pretty accurate. If I wanted to be an affiliate for golf equipment, I would enter a keyword like ‘golf clubs’ in the tools and do a search..
The commercial intention for the keyword phrase ‘golf clubs’ is 0.97. Being close to a perfect 1.0, it is to say, the niche is almost certainly profitable, as the majority of the people who search for that phrase will probably get interested to buy.
Every activity you do in affiliate marketing requires keywords. Whether you choose to use PPC marketing, blogging, article marketing or some other form of marketing, you’ll need to choose the right keywords, if you’re expecting to get a decent number of traffic.
I recommend Jaaxy for research
This keyword tools is extremely easy to use. Simply enter your keyword phrase and you’ll get a large number of related keywords. You can sort them by the average number of monthly searches.
You want to look for keyword that have:
- At least 1,000 searches per month
- Less than 200 competitors
Enter each keyword phrase in quote into Google to check competition. This will tell you number of people targeting that exact phrase.
Marketing and Traffic
Once you’ve a list of keywords that have at least 1,000 searches per month and is less than 200 competitors, it is time to use that keyword to generate traffic.
There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of ways to generate traffic, but I’m just be going through some of the easiest but best ways of generating traffic quickly and with little money up front.
Writing and submitting articles to the right article directories is one of the easiest ways to generate free traffic. These article directories have very good authority with the search engines, so articles you submit will rank quickly and bring in traffic.
Your articles should be between 300 to 500 words, so that you don’t bore people with too long a write-up. It’s a good idea to keep your articles fairly short, because you don’t want them to feel completely satisfied. To get the complete information, they will need to visit the affiliate link in your resource box at the end of your article.
Some article directories to submit to include:
Another way of getting traffic is blogging. This is best done on your own domain and with your own hosting rather than using free blogging platforms like Blogger.com who can delete your blog at any time they feel like, for any reason they choose and even without you breaking their rules.
Whenever you make a blog post, make sure you include keywords in the title of the post as well as the content. This will help you generate plenty traffic from the search engines.
HubPages.com which is an example of social content site has good authority with search engines; therefore the pages you create will rank quite well.
Just as with blogging or article marketing, be sure to use your keywords in your titles and content. This ensures that you’ll generate traffic from the search engines.
Forums are good for affiliate marketing but one needs to be very careful. Forums usually don’t allow you to post affiliate links neither in posts nor in your signature, you have to carefully read the rules. You however might be able to link to your blog from your signature if affiliate links are prohibited.
You now have the basics you need to start affiliate marketing. Take this information and work with it and you will be making money almost immediately.
You need to keep at whatever you do. Never give up on it! These things really work. Affiliate marketing is extremely easy if your guide the right guidance. Once you have set up some moneymaking strategies in place, they can run mostly on autopilot!
